Court definitively denied GPU access to data of journalist Berdynskykh

On May 30th, the Pechersk district court of Kiev finally denied the Prosecutor General's Office to provide an access to the telephone data gathered during last year and a half of the journalist for "Novoye Vremya" Khrystyna Berdynskykh. She wrote it on her Facebook page. "The decision is definitive and can not subject to any appeal. Nine months of struggle finally ended with victory! IMI informed, on May 6th, the Pechersk district court of Kiev adjourned to May 30th the hearing over the petition filed by the General Prosecutor's Office as to the access to the telephone data of the journalist for "Novoye Vremya" Khhrystyna Berdynskykh. The sitting was not held due to the would-be lack of free rooms. On August 27th, 2018, the Pechersk district court of Kyiv authorized access for the Prosecutor General's Office to the calls and sms messages of the journalist and editor-in-chief of the “Schemes corruption in details” investigation program Nataliya Sedletska within the case on alleged disclosure of state secrets and pre-trial investigation by the Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) Artem Sytnyk. On September 5th, 2018, the journalist for “Novoye Vremya” Khrystyna Berdynskykh claimed that the court provided the Prosecutor General of Ukraine with an access to the information from her phone. On September 26th, 2018, the Kyiv court of appeals referred to the court of the first instance for a reexamination the petition issued by the Prosecutor General's Office on access to the data from the telephone of the journalist for”Novoe Vremya” Khrystyna Berdynskykh. On November 12th, 2018, the Pechersk district court of Kiev adjourned hearings on petition of the PGO on access to data from the phone of the journalist Khrystyna Berdynskykh until December 20th. On December 20th, 2018, the Pechersk district court of Kyiv postponed for an indefinite period hearings on the petition of the GPO as to the telephone data of Khrystyna Berrdynskykh. Then, the sitting was scheduled for February 14th, 2019, but it was postponed for a indefinite date. Also IMI nformed on April 17th, that a businessman Volodymyr Galanteryk filed a defamation suit against the weekly “Novoe Vremya”, as Detektor Media reported on April 17th quoting Krystyna Berdynskykh, journalists of “NV”. Also, IMI informed he journalist of the media outlet “Novoye Vremya” Khrystyna Berdynskykh received a text message with death threats.
