Commission on journalistic ethics made friendly warning to “Ukrayinska Pravda” due to article on Yulia Tymoshenko

26.04.2019, 19:12
The Commission on journalistic ethics has expressed its friendly warning to the web-based edition “Ukrayinska Pravda” due to publication dated of February 13th, which had features of paid-for article to the benefit of the candidate for the presidency Yulia Tymoshenko. The Commission issued its decision on April 24th, as to Detektor Media. In the framework of the survey of coverage of the presidential election, the Commission got a complaint against the story “Tymoshenko promised $1000 salaries to voters”. According to Commission’s conclusion, the UP broke article 6th and 7th of the Code of ethics of Ukraine journalist, namely requisition to present impartial and exhaustive information and to separate the publication of news and advertisement and analythics. As to the Commission, the article was based exceptionally on the report of the press service of the Batkivshchyna party and was dedicated exclusively to the speech of Tymoshenko. “On opinion of the Commission this publication was aiming to improve image and rating of the presidential contender Yulia Tymoshenko and not to inform the voters on important facts and phenomenon related to electoral process. The whole story dealt with some ideas of wage increase, ideas sought-after in Ukrainian society. This message was put in the title as well”.
