Chernivtsi National University refused journalist’s request for information again

21.03.2015, 18:22

For the second time, Chernivtsi National University refused the request of Chernivtsi-based journalist Nadia Babynska (regional correspondent of IMI in Chernivtsi and Ivano-Frankivska oblasts) for public information. This time, the journalist requested the income declarations of the Unversity management. The refusal signed by the rector Stepan Melnychuk stated that the management did not conset to disclosure of their income declarations.

The journalist intends to go to court.

Babynska’s request to the Ministry of Education and Science as to the copies of the contracts with the management of Chernivtsi National University was groundlessly reclassified as a letter. With the help from the lawyer of the Institute of Regional Press Oleksander Burmahin, Babynska is preparing a complaint to the High Commissioner in Human Rights.

Earlier, Chernivtsi National University refused the journalist’s request for the information about salaries, benefits, and financial aid to the University management.
