Appeal court upheld home arrest for suspected assailant of cameraman Vadym Makaryuk

The Kharkiv appeal court upheld the home arrest as preventive measure for Serhiy Kozlyuk, who is suspected assailant of Vadym Makaryuk, cameraman who had been severely assaulted in Kharkiv marketplace Barabashovo on June 7th, as Media Port informed. IMI informed, on June 12th someone Kozlyuk, 26, unemployed person, resident of Kharkiv, was suspected being perpetrator of the attack against the cameraman, he was placed under a home arrest for one month and 28 days. In the framework of this investigation, the police interrogated more than 100 persons, held several examinations. IMI informed as well, Vadym Makaryuk was injured as he tried to take video of a row at the Barabashovo shopping center on June 7th. Some unknown persons impeded him to film, they damaged his camera and caused grave injuries. Vadym Makaryuk was diagnosticated with with the cerebral vascular hemorrhage. He is in a serious condition at the hospital. The investigators instituted the criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Art. 345-1 (“Threat or violence against the journalist”), Part 1 of Art. 171 (“Obstruction to professional activities of the journalist”) and Part 2 of Art. 187 (“Robbery”) of the Criminal Code. On June 10, the deputy head of the Regional police department Serhiy Chyzh said that the police still did not recognize Vadym Makaryuk as aggrieved person, as he in unable to testify.
