Administration of Mykolaiv local police hides from journalists information about its officers' positions

15.09.2015, 23:12

The head of the Administration of MIA in Mykolaiv oblast Vitaliy Honcharov and his substitute Yevhen Kovtun conceal from the journalist of the online media outlet «Prestupnosti.NET» Andriy Lokhmatov information about the names of people who hold various offices in the local department. This information comes from the regional IMI correspondent.

According to Lokhmatov, this information that should be available to the public was not given to him – the vice-head of the Administration Kovtun refused to provide it. Specifically, he refused to answer the journalist's question until what time lieutenant colonel Serhiy Diachenko worked as the head of a local police department in Feodosia, Crimea. The journalist was told  that this data would not be disclosed on "protection of personal data" grounds.

Later, Lokhmatov requested information on a certain officer's specific position. The text of the response was identical to the previous one, albeit this time it was signed by the head of Mykolaivoblast administration of Ministry of Interior Affairs, Vitaliy Honcharov.

The journalists considers this information to belong in the public domain, and filed a complaint on this case to the Ukrainian Parliamentary Ombudsman for Human Rights. He also plans to sue Lokhmatov for refusal to provide information.
