Journalists beaten in Chernihiv region

Photo credits: Detektor Media On June 13, two journalists were beaten and prevented from working in Pryluky (Chernihiv region). The incident was confirmed by the press officer of Chernihiv police department Yuliya Kovtun, as to “Detektor Media”. The journalists were going to let in and to cover a public meeting of a candidate for the parliamentary election. The meeting was organized for Borys Prykhodko, former deputy head of the National bank of Ukraine, as to “Detektor Media”. The journalists working for a local TV channel were going to verify the information on voters bribery at this meeting, as local web-based edition Cheline reports. But one of aids of the candidate prevented them working and used physical force against the journalists. The person, at first, tried to snatch the micro out of the journalist Mariya Hural hands. Then he started beating her. Another journalist Volodymyr Tsyhanov tried to defend her, as to “Stop corruption!” The police in Chernihiv region instituted criminal proceedings under the article "Threats or violence against the journalist".
