49% of Ukrainians supported blocking Medvedchuk's TV channels - opinion polls

In Ukraine, 49% of respondents supported the decision to stop broadcasting on TV channels 112 Ukraine, NewsOne, ZIK. 41% of respondents said to be opposed to such a decision. This is evidenced by the survey "Ukraine in lockdown. Monitoring of public sentiment ”, conducted by the sociological group“ Rating Group”, reports Public broadcaster.

Since the sanctions were imposed, support for that decision has risen from 42% to 49%, while the number of critics has fallen from 47% to 41%. At the same time, 21% of respondents do not know about the imposition of sanctions against TV channels, and among respondents who know about the decision, the level of its support is even higher : 57%, and the number of critics is lower : 37%.

72% of respondents generally supported the introduction of state sanctions against individuals and legal entities of Ukraine, if their activities prejudice the interests of the state (46% unequivocally supported the sanction, 26% rather supported it). 

Sociologists noted that if therewais evidence of involvement of such persons in terrorist activities or separatism, the level of support for sanctions against them increased to 85% (67% - unequivocally support, 18% - rather support).

The survey was conducted from February 6 to 8, 2021, inclusive, among 2,500 people aged 18 and older in all regions, except for the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas. The sample is representative by age, sex and type of settlement. Survey method: CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing). Error of representativeness of the study with a confidence level of 0.95: not more than 2.0%.

As IMI reported, on February 2, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi enacted the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of February 2, 2021 "On the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions)", which provides for the introduction of sanctions targeting the MP Taras Kozak and legal entities that own TV channels 112 Ukraine, NewsOne and ZIK for five years.
