Journalists for StopCor beaten in Kyiv

On the 24th of January, some unknown persons beat the journalists for StopCor in Holoseevsky district in Kyiv, as to the web-site of the National police. A group of persons in cars with number plates registered abroad, assaulted two journalists accompanied with activists of human rights organizations who were trying to film illegal extraction of sand. The assailants used spades, pepper-spray projectiles, seized the bag with money of one of the journalists and their personal objects. One journalist suffered injuries and went to the hospital. He got craniocerebral trauma, eye burning. After threatment, he could go home. The police detained 9 suspects and instituted criminal proceedings over “robbery with violence”. Among detained persons the journalist could recognize one of assaulters. At the territory indicated by the victims the investigators seized an axe, a pepper spray projectile, three devices to shot with gas bullets (with authorizing licenses), a starter gun, a hunting carbine, two knifes, three cars. As to StopCor web-site, during last two years the company Mostobud was extracting the sand. The company Mostobud would violate the law, and thus would caused damage of 100 millions of hryvnias ($ 3 millions) to municipal budget of Kyiv. At the end of 2018 the Kyiv Kyiv council has broken the lease contract with Mostobud, but the com pany went on exctracting the sand.
