April 9 to 11: Photo exhibition “Imprisoned Freedom” about Ukrainian journalists in Russian captivity opens in Brussels

01.04.2025, 12:10

The European Parliament Info Hub in Brussels will be hosting a photo exhibition titled “Imprisoned Freedom”, dedicated to Ukrainian journalists illegally detained in Russia, on April 9 to 11, 2025.

According to the Institute of Mass Information, at least 30 Ukrainian media professionals are in Russian captivity today. They were not combatants – their only weapon was the truth. Viktoria Roshchyna, who was tortured to death by Russian forces, will be a central figure in the exhibition.

Visitors will hear the stories of imprisoned journalists and learn why it is important to speak out about their fate.

The official opening will take place on April 9 at 17:00. The event's speakers include:

  • Pina Picierno, Vice-President of the European Parliament;
  • Sebastião Bugalho, MEP;
  • Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Freedom of Expression;
  • Oksana Dyakun, Deputy Representative of Ukraine to the EU;
  • Julie Majerczak, Head of the Brussels Office of Reporters Without Borders;
  • Iryna Zemlyana, Media Expert at the Institute for Mass Media.

Address: European Parliament Info Hub, Esplanade Solidarność 1980, Brussels, Belgium.
