Someone attempted to hack e-mail of IMI correspondent in Volyn region


Maya Golub, IMI correspondent in Volyn region, received a phishing message through Facebook. “February 10th, I received a message from a user who asked me to vote for her candidature, as she was taking part in a video competition and I had to leave a like for her. There was a link in her message, this user told me to send a message back her, as I vote, because she was going to count the votes for her. When I went to the page using the link, I was not allowed to open the page until I enter my log-in and password for my gmail. I thought at once it was phishing, so I did not enter anything”, Maya Golub told. She added she send immediaitely after it happened a message to an expert on internet safety, he told it was a phisher attempt.

“I have protected two-factor authentication e-mail and Facebook account. I had attended several trainings of internet safety. I know what is it phisher attack not just in principle, but in practice now”.

“What is curious, that I received the message from Natalia Mazepa, editor in chief of web-site “Tabloid Volyni”. Sometime after the facts she told me her e-mail had been hacked”, Maya Golub added.

The journalist estimated this attack being related to her professional activity.

Iryna Chulivska, head f Digital security laboratory commented the incident to IMI: “This is 100% phishing, if one had to enter log-in and password, the fraudsters will get it and for the majority of cases they could enter the google-account. In order to protect oneself from such attacks one should:1) to install an extension to browser “password protection” from google (only for google-chrome). 2) to connect two-factor authorization; 3)google password has to be different from all others: 4) if you receive suspicious messages, please, resend it to the Digital security laboratory to get advice on”.
