IMI’s contest “Catch the fake!” winners announced

The expert jury selected the winners of the contest launched by the Institute of Mass information Catch the fake! which lasted from 1st to 31st of March.

The contest was conducted in 3 nominations: I. Revealing of fakes in mass media. II. Revealing of fake images in mass media. III Revealing of untruthful statements of politicians in the media.

3 winners were defined in each nomination with the following honoraries: 1st place — 5000 hryvnias; 2nd place — 4000 hryvnias; 3rd place — 3000 hryvnias.

In the nomination “Revealing of fakes in mass media”:

*the 1st place is won by Olena Polishchuk (Zhytomyr) for revealing of the fake news on PrivatBank;

“PrivatBank switched off the most sought-after service: this was the only schtick”.

*2nd place is won by Oleksandra Rohozhkovan (Kherson) for having revealed the fake news on passports during the election time and Nadiya Krapchyna (Mykolyiv) for having revealed fake news on polling numbers of the presidential contenders;

*3rd place is won by Olesya Lantsman (Kiliya, Odessa region) for having revealed fake news as to recommendations issued by Ulyana Suprun.

In the nomination “Revealing of fake images in mass media”:

*1st place is won by Khrystyna Borovkova (Kherson) for having revealed the fake image of war victims in Donbas region;

“Since beginning of the year, 28 children have been victims in Donbas region – OSCE”

*2nd place is won by Oleksandra Rozhkovan (Kherson) for having revealed fake image of watermelon weighing 120 kilogrammes;

*3rd place is won by Oksana Pelykh (Lviv) for having revealed fake image of Svyatoslav Vakarchuk.

In the nomination “Revealing of untruthful statements of politicians in mass media”:

*1st place is won by Svyatoslav Shpachynsky (Berdyansk, Zaporizka region) as to revealing of unliable information in the interview of MP Iryna Suslova;

“Measles epidemic MP put some unknown data into public domain”

*2nd place is won by Kostyantyn Filenko (Kherson) for having revealed unliable information in the statements made by Vasyl Tsushko;

*3rdplace is won by Oksana Pelykh (Lviv) for having revealed the unliable information within the statements made by the Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko.

The contest is held with support of American nation through the USAID project “Media program in Ukraine”, implemented by the international agency Internews.

The goal of the contest is to reveal the fake news, untruthful statements made by the politicians and to improve media literacy of the Ukrainians.
